Drawing inspiration from the easy elegance of Mediterranean villas, this Montecito residence is a welcoming escape for all who spend time there. Our directive for the renovation was to freshen dated architecture, while maintaining an element of heritage. The result is a home that feels relaxed but considered—rooted in its locale and in sync with the lifestyle that defines California.

A dining area with a weathered trestle table and dark-framed armchairs upholstered in green. An abstract wood sculpture on a timber pedestal stands in the corner. French doors with sage curtains open to the terrace beyond.
A living room corner with a white plaster fireplace, its mantel arranged with ceramics, candles, and a cutting of greenery. A chaise upholstered in natural linen and a spindle-back wood chair flank the hearth. French doors open to an outdoor terrace beyond.
A view through the dining area into the living room beyond. A rustic trestle table is surrounded by dark-framed chairs with green upholstery. The living room features layered seating on a jute rug, with exposed beams overhead and steel-and-wood French doors open to the garden.
A curved staircase with a hand-forged iron railing and natural fiber runner on oak treads. Sunlight falls across the plaster walls from a small window on the landing above.
A double-height entry hall with white plaster walls, wide-plank oak floors, and a curving staircase with a wrought-iron railing. A single rush-seat chair sits in the natural light cast through a steel-frame door. A small, round artwork is set into the wall above the arched alcove.
A bedroom with exposed ceiling beams, a bed dressed in a handwoven windowpane throw, and a slatted wood dresser topped with a dark ceramic lamp. A woven leather luggage rack sits nearby, and green patterned curtains frame the window.
A vaulted bedroom with exposed ridge beam and French doors open to a balcony. A dark writing desk and blue-black chair are positioned to catch the light. Sage green drapery frames the doors, and a small plaster sconce is mounted on the far wall.
