Project

Marin County Farmhouse

Location

Marin County, CA

In 2020, Peter’s family decided to relocate to north Marin County and establish, what is essentially, a family compound. The project of designing a house for his parents was a special opportunity. Per code requirements, the interior footprint of the “ADU” house could not exceed 1,200 square feet. Like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, the house was designed inch-by-inch to include all that was necessary, and desired. By incorporating a wrap-around porch, a move inspired by the Louisiana architect A. Hayes Town, the living space nearly doubled in size—and allowed for ample outdoor living. The motive behind every design and decoration decision was to imbue a sense of heritage, while also creating a house that will weather well for future generations.
