Interior Designer / Project Manager

Overview

This position requires a highly-motivated and organized individual to work alongside our interior design team on projects throughout the country. Success in this role is dependent on implementing organizational processes and systems; managing multi-component projects; and collaborating successfully with a team. You will be a part of all facets of design projects, and grow alongside and within our company.

This role will report to the Principal Designers.

What you'll do

Design:

  • Create furniture plans, elevations, and custom furniture drawings in CAD.

  • Put together design schemes to review with principal designers. Source furniture, lighting, hardware, fabrics, materials, etc. Continue to research and find new sources and suppliers.

  • Develop client presentations, ensuring that the format and presentation of documents are compatible with office standards and requirements. This includes creating design decks, tearsheets, floorplans, elevations, custom furniture drawings etc.

  • Assist principals in presenting design concepts to clients.

  • Join discussions internally, with vendors, and clients about design projects. Track all changes to drawings, design decks, and presentation materials accordingly.

  • Attend workroom, gallery, and showroom meetings with principal designers. Track all notes and design decisions made by updating schedules, work orders, drawings, etc.

Management:

  • Create, update, and maintain project budgets, schedules (finish, plumbing, hardware, lighting, etc.), scope of work documents, and meeting notes to be shared internally and externally.

  • Solicit quotes from vendors and create proposals, work orders, purchase orders, and final invoices in Studio Designer.

  • Delegate purchase orders for non-custom items to Design Assistant – including quoting, ordering, and tracking.

  • Track and coordinate consolidation of purchases using Studio Designer and other standard office schedules.

  • Attend meetings at job sites, record project progress, and ensure design decisions are being implemented.

  • Manage vendors, contractors, clients, and team members to keep projects on schedule and up to date for on-time completion.

  • Communicate project status to principal designers on a regular basis, solicit and implement feedback from principal designers, and maintain proactivity and critical thinking about design details and project coordination.

  • Run project installations. Manage movers, art hangers, cleaners, and vendors during installations.

  • Maintain and organize project files in Dropbox.

  • Issue monthly client update email, following internal review with Principal assigned to project.

  • Perform client-related tasks as required by the needs of the project.

  • Assign and direct the work of studio interns.

  • Manage Design Assistant. Delegate tasks that are appropriate for their skill level. Review their work.

  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to Design Assistant and team interns.

Who you are

  • Have an understanding of client relationship management and how to deliver a high-level of service to clients. 

  • Must have complete knowledge of Studio Designer and be able to create budgets, proposals, purchase orders, invoices, and reports.

  • Must have the ability to format tearsheets, presentation documents, and work orders in Adobe Indesign.

  • Must have the ability to adjust images of items for tearsheets and design decks in Adobe Photoshop.

  • Must have a working knowledge of Google Sheets and Documents in order to create and update schedules. 

  • Complete working knowledge of AutoCAD is required. Must be able to draw plans and furniture from scratch, utilizing office CAD standards for formatting. 

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for working internally, with outside vendors, and with clients.

  • Exceptionally organized in order to manage multiple projects and ongoing tasks.

  • Must be able to set expectations for deliverables, and manage a schedule of tasks independently.

  • Have a sharp attention to detail.

  • Must be willing to travel to job sites in the NYC metropolitan area and as needed to sites in other parts of the country.

  • Have a valid driver’s license.

  • U.S. citizen, or already possess a work visa for working in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Salary

$75,000-$85,000

Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional benefits and professional development opportunities provided.
